Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving! I am certainly thankful to be teaching art at Marshall Elementary. This is what we have been up to...
3rd grade artists prepared backgrounds for their African symmetrical masks. We talked about mask designs and what the masks are used for. After, artists selected a set of complementary colors they will use for their 2D masks and used water colors to paint their background. To test different water color techniques, they added glue and salt. I wonder what it will look like when it dries...
Time flies when you're having fun in the art room! I can't believe the end of the trimester is already here. Check out what the Marshall artists have been up to this week! 2nd grade artists work on arranging their organic shapes on top of their warm or cool geometric shape background. This project is inspired by Henri Matisse. Many of the artists' favorite part of this project is 'drawing with scissors' as Matisse did. Some 2nd grade artists used positive and shapes as well!
3rd grade artists are working on positive and negative, symmetrical masks inspired by African masks. 4th grade artists are working on their photography project. Some may even submit their projects to the art contest Sooper Yooper. http://www.sooperyooper.com/sooper_art.html With generous parent assistance, the 4th grade artists were able to go outside and take photographs.
It's been an exciting week! The Wednesday classes were ahead, so we continued to study our lessons, but with an autumn flare! |
